SirensA term for lesbians who are Femme and Black! The term and the flag represent the beauty, resistance, political act, and independence of being a Black Femme. Sirens are beautiful and independent creatures who do not conform to the rules expected by society; they are masters of themselves. The term does not seek to negate the historical weight of "Fish," only to popularize a variant that is less centered on the American context and can include the globe, in addition to excluding the problematic aspects that the term "Fish" can carry.
Why a new term?Until now, in the butchfemme community, we have the terms femme, butch, and stud, but not an appropriate one that represents the Black femme community. The term "Fish" has become popular, and recently, on the social network X/Twitter, the term "Belle" has emerged. However, given the problematic nature of both terms, there is a need for a nomenclature that does not negate the history built so far, but that respects us, Black lesbian femme women, without room for misinterpretation or offense.

SirensUm termo para lésbicas que são Femme e negras! O termo e a bandeira representam a beleza, a resistência, o ato político e a independência de ser uma Femme negra. Sirens, do inglês, significam Sereias, criaturas belas e independentes que não fazem parte das regras esperadas pela sociedade; são donas de si mesmas. O termo não busca anular o peso histórico de “Fish”, apenas popularizar uma variante que seja menos centrada no contexto estadunidense, e possa incluir o globo, além de excluir a problemática que o termo “Fish” pode carregar.
Por que um novo termo?Até então, na comunidade butchfemme, temos os termos femme, butch e stud, mas não um apropriado que represente a comunidade femme negra. Foi popularizado a nomenclatura "Fish" e recentemente, na rede social X/Twitter, o termo "Belle". No entanto, visto a problemática de ambos os termos, surge a necessidade de uma nomenclatura que não anule a história até então construída, mas que respeite nós lésbicas femme negras, sem abertura para má interpretação ou ofensa.

El término no pretende negar el peso histórico de "Fish", sino popularizar una variante menos centrada en el contexto estadounidense y que puede abarcar todo el mundo, además de excluir los aspectos problemáticos que puede conllevar el término "Fish".
